Resources for Carers
Millions of people across the UK care for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health condition or addiction, cannot cope without support. The impact of caring on all aspects of life from relationships and health to finances and work can be significant, and its challenges should not be underestimated.
It can be difficult to know where to start when looking for help. We have collated key topics here as well as links to comprehensive information and advice for carers.

Why have a carers assessment?
Getting a carers assessment could be the first step to getting vital support. It's your opportunity to discuss the help you need a carer.
Any carer is entitled to an assessment regardless of amount or type of care, financial means or level of support needed. An assessment can be requested whether or not the person cared for has had a needs assessment, or even if the local council decided they were not eligible for support. You also do not need to be living with the person you look after.
Carers can request an assessment, or someone else can make a referral on their behalf, via the Essex County Council support for carers page or click HERE.
